Matcha Green Tea Latte or Smoothie Recipe
I love drinking green tea and in the summer I always enjoy a Starbucks Green Tea Frappuccino, or a Jamba Juice Matcha Smoothie Blast. I developed a recipe to be able to enjoy these drinks at home. I think you will find that it tastes great.
It is really good for your health too. It is important to understand that all matcha green tea powders are not created equal, so this recipe require using premium matcha green tea powder.
I like to use the "Usucha" (or thin) matcha green tea powder. This that comes directly from Kyoto, Japan.
1/2 teaspoon matcha green tea powder
1/4 cup hot water
3 teaspoons sugar, honey or artificial sweetener
1/2 milk/soy milk/(yogurt or ice cream for smoothie)
6 ice cubes, added to the blender one at a time
1 teaspoon vanilla
Put 1/2 teaspoon matcha green tea with hot water into a blender. Pulse a few times to mix. Add sugar, milk and vanilla and pulse blender again. Add ice cubes, one at a time. Blend well. Enjoy.
You can mix ingredients together and pour over ice instead of using the blender to make a green tea iced latte instead of a smoothie, if you prefer.

Matcha is a very healthy type of green tea. It is the whole leaf ground into a powder. When drinking Matcha you get the benefit of all the antioxidants not just those released through steeping.
Matcha beverages are delicious as well. I'll be trying your recipe using honey for a little sweetener. For others who want to give this recipe a try you can get Matcha powder at Teavana Green Teas.
